This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of Redtails with one of the stars in the movie Elijah Kelley. Elijah Kelley is originally from LaGrange and wanted to show his home town some love by premiering the movie there. The evening started with a reception for the actor at the Legacy museum in downtown LaGrange and ending at the Carmike movie theatre across the street. The museum had a special display for the Elijah and for the Tuskegee Airmen that he portrayed in the movie. The similarities of the Airman “Joker” and Elijah are very noticable when you look at the old photographs of The Tuskegee Airmen. I enjoyed viewing the display that they created for both of them and learning about the background history of the Tuskegee Airmen. There was also a representative from the Atlanta chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen who came to speak to us and told us that there are 12 remaining Airmen left from that era. He spoke of the courageous men and even 2 women that were nurses that also served with the Tuskegee Airmen. The over all opening night of the movie was one that will be remembered for a long time. It was great to see so many people out to greet Elijah and support the film. Check out some of the pictures that were captured courtsey of my uncle at DrH Photgraphy.
